poetry

words for conviviality

When the human in me sees the human in you,
How can we meet the needs of the whole not the few
Who make the machines that in turn crush us all
As progress and profit grow ceaselessly tall?

When the human in you sees the human in me,
How can we build social worlds in which we agree
To care for each other, each being, each whole,
To venerate life, death, body, and soul?

When the human in us sees the human in them,
How can we grant each group the power to mend
The rifts torn wide open by colonial ways,
The power to heal, the power to play?

When the human in them sees the human in us,
How can we all find faith despite difference to trust,
In plurality, tension, contradiction, resolve,
Dialectical change, (im)material laws?

When the human in human sees the soul of the all
How can we embed ourselves in the web of the all?
Can we embody big pictures, small details, the stars,
Mycelial networks, worlds beyond bars?

The questions here posed are for us all to answer,
And answer we must, if we hope to surpass the
Converging catastrophes, current conditions.
Here's to finding strength in collective liberation.
